Journeyman Beekeeper Week Six

Chapter 8 – Disappearance of the Honey Bees from the Hive, (pp. 118-127)
     This chapter discusses several reasons why a colony, or part of a colony, might decide to leave their hive, how to recognize the signs of departure, and how to tell the difference in the causes when finding a vacant or significantly reduced hive.

Chapter 9 – Relationship Between Honey Bees and Plants (pp. 130-144)
   Knowledge of botany and bee biology permits beekeepers to anticipate bee responses to environmental conditions and the biological cycles in both plants and bees. Skillful beekeepers manage their colonies by anticipating seasonal cycles. Beekeepers should be planning for what will come next, rather than reacting to what is happening or has already happened – anticipation, not reaction. Skillfully applying biological knowledge allows beekeepers to anticipate colony development and needs
